Oregon's
Highway 58 traverses the Cascade mountain
range, beginning at Interstate 5, just south of Eugene and ending
eastward at Highway 97, just north of the Central Oregon town of
Chemult. The Willamette Highway travels through the Willamette National
Forest, The Deschutes National Forest and skirts just north of the
Umpqua National Forest.
Thick,
dense stands of Douglas Fir grace the western slopes of the Cascades,
mixed with Western Red Cedar, Cottonwoods and Alder draws. Upon
reaching the summit of the Willamette Pass, the "eastern"
slope terrain of Lodgepole Pine begins to dominate the landscape.
You
will find an abundance of water related activities...boating, swimming
and fishing in Dexter Lake, Fall Creek Reservoir, Lookout Point
Reservoir, Hills Creek Reservoir, Waldo Lake, Odell Lake and Crescent
Lake to name just a few. There are also hundreds of alpine lakes
and crystal clear streams.
The
purpose of Highway58.net is to showcase this historic and wonderfully
scenic byway, its communities and near countless recreational opportunities.
