Directions:
From Interstate 5 south of Eugene, drive 59 miles southeast on Highway
58. Turn left and drive 5.5 miles north on Forest Service Road 5897,
then two miles west on Forest Service Road 5896 to the camp.
Trip notes: This camp at an elevation of 5,400 feet is tucked
away along the southeast shore of Waldo Lake, which is one of the
three purest lakes in the world. Trivia buffs note: Of those three
lakes, two are in Oregon (the other is Crater Lake) and the third
is in Siberia. For hikers, a trail circles the lake and intersects
several other trails that provide access to the Waldo Lake Wilderness.
The camps on this lake are in a great location and spectacularly
lovely, but have one drawback, they are infested by mosquitoes in
June and July. Bring bug repellent and netting if you want a peaceful
trip.
